Vodafone partners with HiWEB to launch IoT services in Iran

Telecoms giant has signed a partnership agreement with Iranian counterpart HiWEB to provide IT infrastructure and internet of things services in the country

Vodafone has signed a deal with Iranian company HiWEB to help it roll out and modernise network and IT infrastructure in Iran.
The UK telecoms giant is the latest western company to launch operations in Iran after sanctions were lifted against the country earlier this year.
The non-equity partner agreement will see Vodafone help to expand HiWEB’s fixed and mobile internet services in Iran for both consumer and corporate customers. Vodafone’s multinational corporate customers will also benefit from the improved services.
Vodafone will also help HiWEB launch internet of things (IoT) services in Iran. Diego Massidda, Vodafone partner markets chief executive, said he hoped the partnership would benefit both companies in the country.
“Vodafone’s corporate customers will get the benefit of quality network services in the country, including rural areas, and HiWEB will be able to access Vodafone’s global expertise to support the roll-out of products, infrastructure and the launch of IoT services in Iran,” said Massidda.
HiWEB, one of Iran’s leading internet service providers, began rolling out its long-term evolution (LTE) network in rural and remote parts of the country last year.
Its CEO, Seyed Iman Miri, said Iran’s telecoms market had “great potential for new investment and expansion of fixed and mobile broadband services”
“The partnership with Vodafone allows us to utilise Vodafone’s vast experience and knowledge in this field,” he said.
“This helps HiWEB realise its ambitious plan to be a leading operator in Iran’s telecoms market, and offers our customers a whole suite of innovative services, such as high-quality wireless broadband, IoT and a wide range of enterprise services.”
Vodafone has been increasing its presence in the IoT space in recent years. Its IoT service is now available in 30 countries, its IP virtual private network (VPN) services are available in 70, and cloud and hosting services are available in 12 countries.
